The Renaissance Man’s Guide To Maintaining Momentum While Doing Everything

November 30, 2010 By Joel Runyon 15 Comments

This is the first of 3 posts on The Renaissance Man's Guide To Maintaining Momentum While Doing Everything. The Renaissance Man's Challenge Being a renaissance man is hard. There’s so much I want to do and so much I want to be good at there there’s a seemingly endless amount of activities on my plate. Just take a look at the things on my impossible list. Some are service-oriented. Some are athletic oriented. Some are focused on business, some on ...

Happy Thanksgiving From [BIT]

November 25, 2010 By Joel Runyon 4 Comments

Happy Thanksgiving From [BIT] Hopefully you're spending today eating too much, drinking too much and enjoying the company of family and friends. I talk a lot about what I'm doing here, but I wanted to let each of you know, thank you. Thank you guys for doing your own impossible things and challenging me to do mine. Thank you for reading, commenting, tweeting, sharing and thank you for all the emails. It means a lot. Enjoy the rest of the weekend, ...

Gratitude

November 23, 2010 By Joel Runyon 31 Comments

Happy Thanksgiving week. Thursday is going to be a big day here in the US and we'll celebrate like we Americans normally do, eating entirely way too much and watching football. Somewhere in there we get together with relatives and we're reminded of how good we have it. I think it's a great tradition (the "how good we have it" reminder part, although the food + football part is pretty good too), but I don't see the need to confine it to once a year. ...

You’re Not ADD

November 18, 2010 By Joel Runyon 24 Comments

You're Not ADD I get it. ADD is a real disorder and a lot of people have it. I know. I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about the people who use ADD their reason for doing nothing. Instead of taking one or two tasks from start to completion and taking pride in doing it, they bounce around with 7 (or 70) different "amazing" ideas and never do any of them. They end up giving into their lizard brain and having 5 half-finished projects and nothing to ...

Stretch Regularly

November 11, 2010 By Joel Runyon 28 Comments

Stretching is one of my least favorite activities. It's painful, it's boring and it takes forever. It's also entirely necessary if I expect to keep running triathlons, half-marathons and more races in the future. I'm learning this the hard way. This whole week I've been hobbling around since tweaking my IT band early last week and making it even worse during the half-marathon. It was so bad I could barely stand on my left leg Sunday, and spend most of the ...

The Indy Monumental Half Marathon: Half as hard, Twice as Painful

November 9, 2010 By Joel Runyon 42 Comments

The Race I woke up at 4:30am the day of and got down to Indy. It had snowed Friday night and Saturday morning was not warm. I tried to warm up by jogging around, but my knee was sore the whole time and I could barely eek out a jog. How am I gonna run a half-marathon with this? I hate drugs, but I downed a few [more] ibuprofen to try and dull the pain in my knee and kept stretching as we waited for the starting line to start to fill up. I wasn't seeded ...

Originality is Overrated

November 4, 2010 By Joel Runyon 58 Comments

Originality is overrated There's such a pressure in everything we do to be original. Original goals blog posts, music, products, etc, etc etc. It's so prevalent that it actually makes me tired. I'm convinced the pursuit of originality is just a cover. A cover for procrastination. A reason not to do anything. Instead of taking action, we wait and wait and wait for something 100% original: That one idea That one product That one business model That ...

[Impossible Update] October 2010

November 2, 2010 By Joel Runyon 21 Comments

Usually I begin with some sort of interesting lead-in here that's representative of the whole month, but It's been a crazy month with lots of things happening, so lets just dive in. Around The Blog It's been a busy month around the blog. I knocked another thing off of my impossible list when I ran a 10K and learned a lot about what you can do by just showing up. I talked about how waiting can be fatal, how adaptability can be the most important trait you ...
