As part 2 of my Annual Review, I like to look ahead and aim for what’s coming up this year.
These are less “resolutions” and more things that have a measurable outcome (either I do or don’t do them). That binary aspect keeps me in check and brings me back down to reality.
Here’s where I’m at going into 2018.
Fitness
Getting a Coach
I’m good at training other people and getting people into shape, but with the number of projects I want to do, it’s hard to be “boss” and “executor” on multiple different things. Your brain gets bogged down in the meta-ness of it and I’ve found that it makes it harder for me to train as hard as I like.
But, when it comes to fitness, that’s sort of been my approach – create my own training program, do my own training, think through all the things in between. I want to get a coach set up so I can turn my brain off when I go train and just do the work to get to the goals rather than having to think about the work that I’m doing.
Life
Get A Consistent Base
After 2017, I’m looking forward to staying in a more stable location for 2018 instead of traveling somewhere new every 48 hours.
Quarterly Retreats
I said this last year and I want to do a better job of taking some time each quarter to plan out the next quarter’s work and executing like a MFer on it.
4 Day Work Week Experiment
I want to take 2-4 weeks this year and test out a 4-day work week experiment. For a workaholic like me, this sounds terrifying, but I think it could be an interesting test and maybe even surface some un-expected opportunities.
Getting More Help
I like to think that I can do everything myself. It’s a recurring delusion that I think somehow if I don’t do it myself, it won’t get down. One of the goals I have for this year is to get more help – both in my personal life and in the business – because for the things I do, I don’t think they can be done alone.
Business
In my end-of-year review, I mentioned that I felt like I was “playing business” rather than owning the business. I want to change that in 2018.
IMPOSSIBLE
This year we will be scaling up. A lot. Here’s whats on the docket.
Podcast
I want to release a podcast every week for the next year. Straight forward. Let’s go. So far, so good. Subscribe here.
Membership Site
I’m going to be launching a membership site in the next couple months focused on mental + physical training. Coming soon.
Apparel
We have a whole new set of apparel for the spring coming up and I’m excited to expand both the designs and the type of apparel we’ll be offering.
Physical Products
We soft launched some new physical products in the back half of last year. This year, we’ll be ramping this up at things continue to grow.
Events
I’ll be hosting 2 different events this year. Details to come soon.
Stealth Project
I have a project I’m working on right now that I can’t share about, but I’ve been talking about it for 2 years and I’m happy to finally start on it.
Paleo Nutrition
The paleo business is continuing to grow. My goal this year is to expand my ownership role and reduce my activity in the day-to-day business.
We’re also going to launch the 2.0 version of our meal planning service which should rock pretty awesomely.
IMPOSSIBLE LIST
A few things on my IMPOSSIBLE List that I will be crossing off will be:
- Mr. IMPOSSIBLE Challenge
- Getting to Alaska (#50 of 50 states)
- Getting to All 50 Countries
- Learning (aka getting my butt kicked in) BJJ – I always group up playing ball sports (basketball, baseball, soccer, etc), but never have done any grappling. I want to . This is way outside my comfort zone and that means I probably should do it.
- Gymnastic-like skills (sprints/pullups/handstands/planches)
Here’s the podcast version of the post.
