It’s 4am and I cannot sleep.
I got my tinted glassed on, taken magnesium and nada. Zilch.
It’s been an issue for a little while now, and while I’m naturally a night-time person, I’ve found that sometimes, when I can’t sleep – it’s not a physiological problem, it’s psychological.
In other words, there’s some idea bouncing around in your head that won’t let you rest until you get it out.
I’ve had something like that happen to me the last few nights and I think I knocked it loose.
I read this post by Rog Law and it kicked my ass.
Rog is talking about diet, but it can literally pertain to anything about yourself. Building discipline. Creating habits. Showing up as your best self with integrity in what you do and say.
I’ve seen a worrying trend lately, where actions don’t match up to words. And instead of changing the words, or owning up to the actions, people just let it slide.
- I’ve noticed it in my friends.
- I’ve noticed it in the people I care about.
- I’ve noticed it in myself. A lot.
Integrity. Or lack thereof.
Another simpler way of checking yourself is asking:
Does What You Say = What You Do?
Anytime you take on an issue, it’s best to start with yourself and I’ve noticed in me personally a sharp fall-off in the congruency of those two things in my own life.
It’s starting to bug me. More than just a little. At first, it’s a few compromises here or there. But, if you let it keep rolling, then it becomes a habit.
You might know what I’m talking about. Maybe it’s the gym, maybe it’s your diet, business, projects, school, life or maybe it’s just watching more television than you know you should.
You’ve got a stated set of values and you are not living up to them.
Here’s your chance to turn it around.
I’m launching a 7 day integrity challenge. A practice in ensuring you do what you say you’re going to do.
Do what you say you’re going to do.
I was going to wait till next Monday so we could have a nice clean start to this (new week, new challenge, blah, blah, blah), but that’s all BS.
If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing now. So here we go.
The 7 Day Integrity Challenge.
Table of Contents
The rules are really simple.
Pick one thing. Tell someone you’re going to do it. Then do it.
That’s it. It’s really not that hard. I’m making it easy for you too – the person you’re going to tell is me – in the comments.
My 7 Day Commitment
I will be in the gym 7 days this week and foam roll 10 minutes every day (I’ll be using the beta version of MoveWell).
Why
To be perfectly honest. I’ve been slacking. Ever since getting hurt, my head was wrecked a little bit. When you go from being able to run 20 miles on a whim to barely being able to run 1/2 mile, something gets messed up in your head. Recovery has been as much mental as it’s been physical and I haven’t handled it as best as I could have.
That leaked over into other areas of my life. I started making excuses for why I couldn’t do X, Y, or Z and it just started leaking everywhere. All B.S. – but if you let it get a foothold, it starts to take over.
This quote from Bruce Lee started to ring all too true.
I’m tired of it. So I’m scrapping back some integrity. 7 days at a time.
You Want In?
You want in?
Well, congrats – most people won’t.
It’s easy for most people to say they want stuff, but it’s way more difficult to actually do it. And they’ll like it even less if you hold them accountable.
But the goal of Impossible is to teach you how to do the hard things in life. To build you up to become resilient – so you can do the impossible. That can’t happen if your actions do not match your words.
If you want to sign up. Put your email in here and leave your 7 day committment in the comments below. Again, the just choose one thing – 7 days. Not 20 different things. 1.
And don’t pussyfoot around it either. This is just a 7 day challenge.
- There’s no long term commitments.
- There’s no product to sell you at the end of this.
- There’s no catch.
You just commit to doing 1 thing for 7 days.
Earn back your integrity. Become more congruent.
If you’re in, put your goals down below. If you’re not, maybe this isn’t the right site for you.
I’m here to do tough, difficult, impossible things. I hope you will join me.
“I only want people around me who can do the impossible.” – Elizabeth Arden
=====
If you sign up on the email, I’ll send out a quick email every day. Not promising that it will be the most profound thing you’ve ever read, but I will send it out as a reminder to do what you say you’re going to do.
I’ll also be posting what I do on Instagram so you know that I’m not slacking. Follow me here.
P.s. I will not congratulate you on posting your comment of what you “say” you will do at the start of the challenge (“wow, that’s a great goal”, etc). Too many times people get the high out of a goal by declaring what they’re going to do rather than actually DOING it. Save the praises for when your goal is finished, not for when you declare it.
Do what you say you’re going to do. Take the 7 day integrity challenge.
If you’re still on the fence – just sign up already and do it. It’s just 7 days.

It’s an oldy but a goody, I am going to the gym every day this week and actually exercise properly rather than just running on the treadmill for 30 minutes.
Every time I go to the gym I simply stick to running, maybe a cycle or two. I need to start doing weight training but I swear, I am intimidated by all the other guys at the machines. I’m 27 years old and so self-concious about my flabby body and non-existent muscles that I am afraid to go to that part of the gym. It’s not a big gym so I feel like I’m just using up a bench that some other person could be putting to much better use.
But f**k it, I need to do it, even just for 7 days. (Obviously targeting different areas each day).

Wow this post comes at a strange time really. In my life I have flatlined twice suffered two major concussions one resulting in traumatic brain injury any other resulting in me just acting stupid for about a week however as I write this I am laid up with a intercostal stitch. Nothing could be more painful nothing could regulate your breathing more, then Joe brings on the seven day challenge. I had to give it a lot of thought considering my current condition of laid out flat on the bed with nowhere to go and my entertainment being a ceiling fan!

I’m with Jenny. I have a laundry list of things that I could commit to. That I should commit to, but one is the goal for the time being. I wake between 3 and 4 every AM and sit, watching the news in 30 minute intervals till it is time to shower and go to work. I see it as 6 to 8 different intervals that I can get off the couch and work out in my home gym. I can miss 30 to 45 minutes of the “news” that I watch to death every morning. My commitment is 7 days, 30-45 minutes every morning. No excuses. Not only do I get to “do as I say I’m going to do” but I get the added benefit of feeling great. So tomorrow morning is the deal. If I can keep with it for 7 days, then I can roll with it longer.
Thank you for calling me on my BS 🙂

I did accomplish my 7 day integrity goal and I am now on day 15! 😀 It has been a wonderful experience to talk to strangers every day. My goal is to spend at least 5 hrs every day talking to people about God and what the Bible teaches, but there are days I dedicate 8 hrs per day. 😀 In order to do this, I am only working 10 hrs per week for this month. This is another benefit of being my own boss, hehe. Money isn’t everything or gives you happiness. Doing what I know is right does. Although there are days when I don’t feel like going out and talking to strangers since I don’t know how they will react, I still do it because I know how Bible principles will enrich their lives and mine as well. Your blog is great Joel! 😀

I know this is an old thread but I saw the integrity challenge mentioned on lifehacks and I think it’s a cool idea. I’m going to get up at 5am every morning for the next 7 days. I’m self employed and its hard working around a 2 year old, so this would be the perfect time for me to do some child free work and get my day in order. Only problem is she doesn’t always sleep through the night so it’s gonna be hard!
