All the posts on IMPOSSIBLE by Joel Runyon

Hi, I'm Joel Runyon. I'm a former-UPS driver turned endurance athlete. After being laid off after Christmas from UPS in 2009, I was at rock bottom in my parent's basement. I had a list of things I wanted to do, but they all seemed IMPOSSIBLE. After getting tired of feeling bad for myself, I turned the list into a challenge and called it my IMPOSSIBLE LIST.

Since, I've made it my mission to push my limits and do something impossible. I went from not being able to run a 5k to being one of 6 people to have run an ultra marathon on every continent in the world. I built IMPOSSIBLE into a business along with others including Ultimate Paleo Guide, Ultimate Meal Plans, StartABlog.com, and MoveWellApp.com.

If you're tired of settling for "possible" things and want to push your limits, get in incredible shape, and take control of your life - you're in the right place.

Start your IMPOSSIBLE List, Get Your IMPOSSIBLE shirt, and then start pushing your limits and doing something IMPOSSIBLE.

12 Things I’ve Learned From Running IMPOSSIBLE ® For 12 Years

May 24, 2022 By Joel Runyon 1 Comment

I was meaning to write this last month, but life came up. Some point over the past 6 weeks, Impossible turned 12. Wow! A lot has happened, from running my first triathlon, to an ultra marathon on every continent, to getting sued (twice), starting multiple businesses, getting in the best shape of my life, and knocking a ton of stuff off my impossible list. My life changed dramatically when I spun up some bluehost servers to start my blog (while ...

How I Got In The Best Shape of My Life at 35

May 10, 2022 By Joel Runyon 2 Comments

“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.” - Socrates Right around the beginning of the year, I looked in the mirror. I was working out 5 days / week, getting my butt kicked and when I looked in the mirror, I thought “meh.” I wasn’t fat, wasn’t jacked, but definitely didn’t think I looked like I worked out as hard ...

Why I Created Impossible Sleep™

April 18, 2022 By Joel Runyon 1 Comment

→ Impossible Sleep is available here Sleep has always been something I’ve struggled with. I’m great at doing things, setting goals and accomplishing them, training hard and pushing through challenges. But when it comes to sleep - I always struggled. It felt like the antithesis of that. "I’m just supposed to do nothing?" "For 8 hours?" "And that’s good for you?" "What if I just didn’t do that and worked more?" That seems like a ...

It’s almost too late

March 27, 2022 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

It’s almost too late. You think you have time. But you don’t. You think you can get to it later. But you won’t. You think it’s fine that you’re putting off that decision. It’s not. You want to start that business. How long have you been saying that? You want to learn that new skill? When’s the last time you did anything more than watch a YouTube video on it? You want to get in shape for the summer? Better start now. Everyone ...

Terminator Mentality: How to Accomplish Nearly Anything

March 1, 2022 By Joel Runyon 1 Comment

Terminator mentality. Cyborg mindset. Military mode. I’ve written about this before, but this is my go to method when doing something I don’t want to do. Some people react to stress by hyping themselves up. You see this in cold water. People do breathing exercises, scream at the top of their lungs, chant, or dance around. People do this a lot. Especially in Austin. This is not that. The problem with screaming is eventually you run out of ...

Metrics vs Momentum

February 9, 2022 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

Almost every founder or athlete I know has a bunch of core metrics they track. Traffic, revenue, Customers, CAC, and LTV in business. Weight, Body Fat %, fitness standards, and PRs in fitness. Almost everyone who’s serious tracks metrics. Some meticulously. Not nearly enough people pay attention to momentum. Metrics you can measure. Momentum you can feel. What does your gut tell you? What do other people say unprompted? How do you feel? It’s ...

18 Months. Heads Down. Surprise Yourself.

January 30, 2022 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

Most people don’t really quit. They just give up too soon. Most of your BIG goal progress are stunted because you have no idea what it takes to get to your goal. You can see results quickly on some things. Aesthetics for example - despite what common perception - is sometimes the easiest to change in 8-12-26 weeks. But if you want to change who you are as a person, athlete, career-wise or something else fundamental about yourself. You need ...

The 51% Rule

January 24, 2022 By Joel Runyon 1 Comment

Use this rule the next time you feel like giving up. If you’ve ever done an endurance challenge, race - or even a really tough hike - you’ll find there’s parts where you want to give up. Most people that think “I could never do that” - are more limited by their mindset than their physical capability. Their mental game is what needs work - and part of that is knowing what to expect your brain is going to be saying at different parts throughout the ...

Impossible Fitness – Now Available on Android, iOS, and Web

November 29, 2021 By Joel Runyon 1 Comment

Over the past few months, I’ve been working behind the scenes to build the best way possible to help you achieve your impossible fitness goals. One of the best thing you can do is outsource your fitness. Not having to think about what you’re doing every day and just showing up and doing it is maybe the easiest way to improve consistency and achieve results. That’s why I don’t even bother programming my own workouts for myself these days - because even I ...

Scaling an Impossible Flywheel

November 28, 2021 By Joel Runyon Leave a Comment

aka the not so secret plan for taking over the world A few weeks ago, I shared this tweet: Inspiration → Training → Gear → Fuel → Experiences → Inspiration This is the not-so-secret plan behind what I’ve been building out for 2.0 version of IMPOSSIBLE. The foundation has been laid for a while now, but I've been using the past 18 months in quarantine to piece this together in a much more cohesive and straightforward plan. Inspiration → Blog ...
