The History of Bridge Day

Bridge Day is held at the New River Gorge in West Virginia on the 3rd Saturday of October – every year.
The bridge was opened on October 2nd, 1977 and the first ever jump off the bridge was by Burton Ervin two years later.
Bridge day started in 1979 and has been held every year for the last 45 years with the notable exceptions being 2001 (because of 9/11) and 2020/2021 due to the COVID19 pandemic.
The Bridge Day Festival Rules
From the ofifical site, there are a few important bridge day rules
- NO dogs
- NO coolers, or folding chairs
- NO bicycles, skates, skateboards or wagons
- NO weapons, fireworks, illegal drugs, or alcoholic beverages
- NO quadcopters/drones
- Prohibited bags include: backpacks, tote bags, large purses, camera bags, binocular cases approved bags include: clear backpacks, clear tote bags, fanny packs, purse or clutch smaller than 5”x7” (subject to search)
