Some days you do.
On some days, you’re able to do both. Some days you can’t.
I try to write regularly but the best writing usually happens when you’re writing about stuff you’re actually doing.
That’s usually my plan, but the only problem is that sometimes doing doesn’t always leave time for writing, so if you have to choose between the two – choose doing.
The next two days I’m in San Francisco walking with Nate as he finishes up the last few segments of his walk across America. It’s going to be fun and a little challenging as we walk the last part of the trip.
I’ll pick up the writing aspect again early next week, but the next few days are going to be filled with doing.
What are you doing?

Definitely agree with you on this one! The doing inspires the writing and sharing too.
I love pursuing personal endeavours like the running and healthy cooking, as well as community endeavours like volunteering for causes I’m passionate about. I also love my work – developing inspiring leadership programs for others! It’s a good life!
Thanks for the post!

Congrats on exceeding 1,000 facebook likes! Website looking good too.
What am I doing right now? Eating oats, apple, almonds, in semi-skimmed milk (the oats are in the milk, not me)
Another impossible thing you might consider adding is to trek across Iceland. Saw a great documentary about it.

Joel, I have newfound respect for what you do here. With inspiration from you and others I started a blog as part of my life makeover. Now I found I almost never have time for the blog, what with working 60 hours a week and trying to have a life besides that. I’m actually glad I didn’t attract a following that I would be letting down now. Like the saying goes “it’s not as easy as it looks”. Kudos to you!

It always seems we do our best work when we are excited to be doing it. I agree with you about choosing to do rather than write if you have to make a choice. Besides the memories you make while doing, you can always write about the experience (provided you survive). Thanks
