I sent a note to my friend and expert running coach Jason Fitzgerald about The Longest Day Race.
Jason is a boss and one of the best running coaches around. He’s a much better runner than me and I really respect his opinion.
Here was his response –
Joel, I love you but:
- This is not training.
- This is not a race.
- It’s not for most people.
- I can recommend in good conscience that people do this.
Bro, I love you. But this is not training, it can be dangerous, and I don’t think it’s for most people. I can’t in good conscious promote something that’s like an ultra without first doing the prep.

The funny thing is…he’s completely right.
This is not training.
It’s barely a race.
There’s no good reason to do it.
And it’s definitely not for most people…
But if you’re not most people –
It’s one hell of a challenge.
We have a handful of crazy people around the world signed up for this thing. It’s going to suck in the best and worst ways possible.
I’m closing down registrations after tomorrow so we keep this small and dedicated.
If you want to make your weekend memorable, I know a way.
Joel
