Dear Joel,
I did the impossible by leaving an abusive husband of over 15 years. The first 2 years were hell. But someone told me once, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” And I did. I love your emails. I started boxing again and being ME again. You running through Antarctica gave me massive inspiration. THANK YOU so much for what you’re doing here and being who you are. It’s been tremendous for my outlook.
Much gratitude,
Jen

Keep training and in a few years when you’re super confident, catch the idiot alone in a dark alley and have a go at it! I’ll come help.
Good for you for leaving him

I’ve been waiting for the How I Clawed My Way Out of the Basement: The Full Story since… well, since you clawed your way out of the basement. You were buying used bikes to do local triathlons, you fell quiet for a while, then you returned and you were running ultras, traveling the world, and raising a gazillion dollars for charity. There was always a “mystery gap” in there. Hoping to see that gap filled in.

Just got a job slinging UPS packages for the Christmas season. Have been laid off from summer work for almost five months, but spend the year traveling, getting stronger, kicking ass in my education both, personal and formal, and plan to do it even better next year. Keep the updates coming, Joel!

Joel, I came upon you in a blog post you did about Russell Kirsch. That changed my life and made me realize that I have to stop dreaming and start creating. Dreams are great, they are the basis of inspiration, but you made me realize that life is about realization. Get up, get out of bed, take a cold shower, get out of the house, work on your project, live with the setbacks and the next day, repeat, again and again. IMPOSSIBLE for me represented a way to re-invent myself from the ground up. Not to become someone else but to become the person I was before I gave up. Now, instead of being a dreamer, I am a real musician and a published writer. I run up mountains near my home, take cold showers, and most of all, I’m not afraid anymore. As much as you have done for yourself; you’ve done as much or more for many others like myself. There are words for that in every language. Karma, Mitzvah, an act of good grace that transcends the self. Gracias Amigo, you are in league with the best of men.

Jonathan, write a story and use him as inspiration 😉 He would make for a good character.
