It’s official. I’m a triathlete. At least according the the USAT (USA Triathlon). I have the card to prove it. I paid the $39 and went ahead and did it. Honestly, I’m not sure exactly what membership gets me other than a card I get mailed to me that proves I’m a member and I don’t have to pay a $10 one-day membership fee at every triathlon I sign up for. Essentially this means I have to do at least 4 triathlons this year, because I’ll be danged if I don’t get my $40 made up by the number of triathlon membership fees I get waived. I also find out that if I do at least three triathlons this season, I can get ranked nationally. Nationally. I’m PUMPED about that. Honestly, I don’t really care about what my ranking is, I just want to be able to say, “Hey, by the way, did you know I’m the ______ best triathlete in the US? Don’t believe me? Check the USAT website.” [My ego will go to town with that until I realize that 20,000th best triathlete doesn’t sound so cool after all =)].
This membership is still kind of a leap for me considering I’ve only done one fake triathlon and STILL haven’t done any real Triathlons yet. That’s going to change in the next month. My weekends for the next few weeks are booked so I can’t get any races in, but I’m also going to start ramping up my training and lining up races farther down the road for the summer. I’m looking to get at least 1 sprint distance and 1 olympic distance race in before I run the Chicago Tri at the end of August [also an Olympic distance race]. I’d like to get into a 10k somewhere in there as well. Hopefully i can have a good chunk of my athletic goals on the Impossible List checked off by the the end of the summer. I’ve committed to doing them and it’s actually pretty exciting to start putting the pieces into place one by one. The next few weeks are going to be a flurry of organizing and concreting plans for the summer. I’m pumped for what’s coming up this summer. Thanks for reading along and being a part of it!

[What I Want To Know]
What Are You Pumped About This Summer?
Tom says
Congrats on becoming an official (sort of) triathlete. I did sprint and Olympic distance triathlons for about 3 years and loved it. Unfortunately I’ve stopped since I moved from the UK to South Korea (ESL teaching). What am I pumped about this summer? Visiting the USA in October!

Very Cool Tom.
How long have you been teaching ESL in South Korea? I’ve got quite a few friends that way and they all seem to love it!
I’m getting into the actual thick of things now, with registering for events and starting to ramp up my training. I’m actually getting excited about it =)
You’re visiting the states, huh? Any place in particular? If you swing by the midwest, be sure to give me a shout.
