Giveaway time!
Here’s the deal – I’m giving away 25 signed copies of living with a SEAL
Here’s how it works:
I’m going to be randomly selecting 25 people to get a signed copy of Living with a Seal – which I featured here last September– by Jesse Itzler.
Living with a Seal is the story about how Jesse felt stagnant in his life, so he hired David Goggins (yes, this guy), to live with him for a month and whip him into shape.
It’s a hilarious and challenging book that’s going to make you want to do 100 burpees for time when you put it down.
Note: Jesse’s group – WeDoHardStuff.com – is also the group that we’re building school #7 with this month. You do the workouts, and $300 gets donated in your name to Pencils of Promise.[/color-bx]In order to win a copy, all you have to do is leave a comment and tell me something uncomfortable you plan on doing this summer (bonus points if you do 10 burpees before leaving a comment).
You can also enter on Facebook and Instagram.
What are you waiting for?
p.s. If you haven’t already, you should join WeDoHardStuff.com this month and help us build a school.

Joel, you and Jesse and Goggins have inspired me to break the chain of laziness around my neck. The hard stuff I’m going to do is create my impossible list and drop bombs on it. I’m already getting up at 4:30 thanks to Jocko Willink. I do any and all runs with a 20 pd weighted vest. I prevail by daring to fail.

Hey Joel. Much love from Barbados.
Its summer time and thats means unemployment for a whole 4 months until school starts in September. So I wrote a semi impossible list on which im trying to learn four languages, learn to code and learn how to skateboard. I’ve already started but i lose motivation really quickly which makes me feel like i put too much on my plate to start with.
But my mom didnt raise a quitter.
It feels really good leaving my comfort zone.

Hi Joel! I’m a college student from NY, big fan of your blog! Because of you I’ve created my own impossible list, which includes a couple of things I plan on accomplishing this summer. I want to complete 50 days of cold showers (on day 6 so far!) and I want to lose the 45 lbs I gained from poor eating habits, lack of activity, and stress since my freshman year in college. Thank you for motivating me and everyone who follows your adventures, I know I can do this!

I m training for my first Ironman triathlon this September (Ironman Chattanooga). I’ve been training for this for almost 2 years.
As a fitness test, and to test my nutrition & pacing, I did an indoor ironman distance simulation last October: I swam 2.4 miles/3.8 km in a 25-metre pool, drove straight home to bike 112 miles/180 km on my trainer, and ran a half marathon on the treadmill – my goal was to do a full marathon, but due to the discomfort I had with my bike seat, I stopped at the half. I still made the official cutoff times for each sport which included the drive home from the pool. I learned a lot of lessons that day, and I made changes to my bike fit, training, and nutrition.
My ultimate goal is to be accepted to race the Ultraman triathlon next year.

I am going to China and my plan is to speak Chinese for at least 10 minutes a day with a local. I know this is not uncomfortable on a physical level, but on a psychological level, this makes me feel very uncomfortable. I’ve been learning Chinese for a year but I’ve never talked to anyone except my Chinese teacher. I’m afraid of messing up pronounciation and intonations and of not finding the right words or not understanding a single thing. At the samt time, I’m looking forward to it because if I don’t start speaking the language, I’ll never learn it.

Hi Joel! This summer I’m getting involved in our local toastmasters organization. I started in early May, and I plan on continuing through the summer and rest of the year. Public speaking has always been one of my greatest fears, so this will be a great accomplishment for me.
I work as an analyst, so theres not much presentation or speaking at my job. A friend asked me to speak in his graduation, and challenged me to join toastmasters so I would be ready.
A signed copy of the book would be awesome! But even if not Im glad I was able to share my story. Toastmasters is working and Im looking forward to seeing how far it takes me. Thanks for all of your blog posts. And I did 10 up downs before I posted this!!

Hi Joel, *got to take my breath*
I try the impossible and want to finish my phd paper. Sounds to easy?
Okay, last time I worked on it was 2013 and my whole life fell into peaces: I was close to throw myself infront of a train. Over the years the phd paper became the symbol of this nightmare and everytime I tried working on it my body began to shake, my bloodpressure droped and my vision went black.
It is time to do the impossible and fight this deamon, not for the title but to for me.
Keep up your good work.

No doubt that the thing I feel myself uncomfortable with NOW, will make me more comfortable at the END.
This summer I will get rid of 2/3 of my clothes by donating them. Has been a while I realized that those dozens of clothes are only there for no reason, only creates complexity in my life. They occupy excessive amount of space, makes me always think what to wear (loss of time/energy), requires more water/electricity for laundry etc..
This summer I will make it happen and will make a change in 30 years’ habit!
Thanks for being an inspiration..

Joel as an adopted orphan from Guatemala, I plan on reuniting with my brith parents this summer. I haven’t seen them for 15 years and counting. One of the impossible parts was searching for them since it was looking for a needle in a haystack. With the help of my adoptive parents and there support we traced them down finally.
My biggest fear that I had throughout this process was this question that I had in my mind, “what if they don’t remember me?” I realized that it doesn’t really matter what they think, what matters is being able to be in the moment with them rather they still know who I am. Blessed is not the word to use to describe how lucky my life has been with my adoptive parents. It’s more of a miracle that I am still alive and here to share my story.
My impossible challenge isn’t a crazy workout plan that I want to do, or a marthon race, or waking up early. No, my impossible challenge is being able to finally see my birth parents after all those years. I defeated the impossible by being alive and making something out of myself as a person. That in itself is the “impossible”.
Thank you Joel for your inspiration!

But I’ve also never been more excited or proud of myself.

Joel,
It’s my dream to leave this country and make something of myself in a different culture and environment. I’m working three part time jobs this summer, waking up every morning at 5:30 so I can get to work. I’m learning Chinese and Spanish to fluency so that I may travel and study abroad next year and for the years to come later in life. I’m working out everyday, and strive to become the best I can possibly be. I do the impossible every time I silence that voice in my head that tells me to give up and go back to being a deadbeat loser.

Two small things that will pay large dividends downstream … and while not hard in and of themselves they have become ‘impossible’ …
– Consistently apply range of motion/flexibility to my fitness routine.
– Cleaner diet/Whole 30
I know these additions will allow me to remain an active volunteer in a busy fire company as well as extend benefits outside of my avocation.

Later this summmer I am going to do a 100 mile bicycle ride around Galveston Bay, TX as a fundraisor for the bay. I haven’t even ridden a bike in a few years, but I’m now training. I am in fairly good shape to start, and this is a great motivator for me for many things: getting more in shape, eating even more healthy, getting more sleep, more gratitude and joy, discipline, endurance, mindfulness, community building, doing some great service, and spreading enthusiasm, excitiement, and more joy! And I’m sure there will a great many other things that I will gain and be able to contribute and share as well!
Thanks for your inspiration and challenge.

Hello! I’m already walking 5 hours a day, and I plan to continue till the end of the summer.
I’m going to focus on being able to make 15 pull-ups in a row and improve my sprinting energy and velocity – to the point where I can explode every other day notwithstanding my waking time
(5 AM – it’s bloody difficult to sprint at 5 AM).
I also want to clad my sleep routine in iron – in other words, build on my perseverance.
I want to build my cold shower empire. I’m working on a decade-long run.
Finally, I want to stop living vicariously and live more mindfully. This, by far, is the most difficult and uncomfortable.

Last summers challenge was going from not being able to run further than 500 meters to registering and completing a half marathon with 2 1/2 months experience.my next one was completing a full before the end of my first year in running. At 38 I’m training for what I always felt was impossible for me; a marathon. Not easy to fit training in for this full time working, husband also training, mom of 3 boys under 7, but #noexcuses. I finally realize I need to take care of me.

Hi, I do not believe that so many people manage to write their wishes in 2 days only. It is impossible
My challenge is to fast as long as possible. The longest so far was 3 days (72 hours). Next time I am going to beat that time:)

Hey Joel,
This summer I’m going to be getting consistent with my diet and workouts, as well as pushing myself to talk to new people.

So impressed with 777, you’re killin’ it Joel! I’m living at 7,400ft in elevation in Silver Gate, Montana where heavy snow still blankets many of the surrounding peaks. The river running through town is 100% snowmelt and absolutely freezing. It is so cold. It’s gotta be like 33 degrees! I already have and will jump in again, a similar experience to your recent antarctic shower.

Burpees done. Boom.
After doing Warrior Dashes, time to level up and do a Rugged Maniac…and knock more items off my impossible list, including breaking a second world record.

I put on my ACL brace, to do 10 burpees. My leg almost dislocated due to unresolved fitting issues. Jessie’s group is an inspiration to me, as well as CST. I had planned on doing a triathlon this summer, however my ACL tore for a 3rd time training, so I am out. (I had my 3rd knee surgery 3 weeks ago.) The uncomfortable thing I plan on doing this summer is to wear a brace to do normal activities, such as biking & burpees, as well as CST, although I actually am enjoying CST now, so that doesn’t count. I am writing 2 books, and would really cherish the opportunity to read “Living With a Seal”. It would be a dream come true.

This summer I will do the 4 state challenge on the Appalachian Trail. To do the challenge, you hike 40 miles within 24 hours. I plan to do it in a little over a month.

I’m cutting out alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs in order to get my bodies’ natural rhythm and functioning back. I hope this can help me rebalance my emotions and physical wellbeing as well as help me work on confidence and self-esteem without the aid of mood-altering substances. I want to live a joyful and happy life with clarity and sobriety! I’m 22 and been drinking since I was 16 which I think has hindered my social and emotional development a little. Also, I’m making it a goal to get some sort of exercise everyday and been finishing each shower with cooooold water.

Hey!
I plan to do a lot this summer. I’m already learning korean, but I just know a couple of words and almost no grammar. By the end of summer I want to be able to have a proper basic conversation. I also want to focus on my body. I wanna lose 3% to 5% bodyfat by the end of summer.

I’m 45 years old…I’ve had to “give up” running due to recurring knee issues (by give up, I simply mean running on a treadmill still despite Doctor’s orders but squeaking out maybe 12 miles a week vs. the 40 I used to do…). I’ve picked up rowing (machine) – and until this year had never once even tried a machine. My form sucks but I’m hell bent on breaking 8 minutes on 2000 meters, I haven’t hit below 9 yet – but I will get below 8…

I’m new to Impossible and this list. But I’ll read the book whether I win it or not since I’ve fantasized what I could do if someone were yelling at me all the time.
But this year I’ve gotten out of a few comfy spots.
I did couch to 5k, blew both knees out, got better, ran several 5k’s, and aim to get below seven minute mile by July.
First ever base jump, off a 700′ tower in Aukland. And I don’t like heights.
Two weeks into cold shower challenge, I hate it, but part of me likes it.
Graduated college, traveled to Sydney and NZ with other students.
There’s several challenges this summer, but with school done the biggie is to get a good job.
I need to relearn burpees, forgive me, but whenever my watch says to “Move!” I do ten pushups and then jumping jacks until the watch is happy. And it’s mad at me now so off I go.

I have been living in Nicaragua the past 3.5 months in a cool surf town where fresh water and working toilets are a luxury. I work at the most amazing restaurant as the Manager and I’ve decided to start playing rugby. I haven’t played since high school and my fitness level is definitely not what it used to be. It’s the rainy season here. And I’m also a few months from being 32!!! When in Nicaragua…do the IMPOSSIBLE, right!!!!! Let’s see how it goes shall we! I’m always up for an impossible challenge!
