“Oh, is that what you want? Permission to quit?”
Good luck with that.
Lisa from Gym Jones posted that the other day. I love it.
I get people to ask me all the time:
What should I do to lose weight / get a six pack / get stronger?
I’ll write them a program or give them a plan?
At least 50% of the time, someone will immediately ask me:
“I know this say X, but can I do Y?”
- I really like donuts, I can’t give up donuts.
- My schedule is really tight. Can I just skip this?
- I don’t like to sprint, can I do something I’m more comfortable with instead?
And my answer is always the same.
Yes. You can do whatever the f—k you want.
I do not care.
But you asked me to make you a plan. So what do you want to do?
But do you want to achieve your goal or do you want to eat a f—king donut?
Maybe you want t the donut – that’s cool. And maybe, sometimes you can.
But be honest with yourself.
If you want to do something you’ve never done before, you can’t just do whatever you want whenever you want.
If you want to do stuff you’ve never done before, you gotta do the hard stuff.
Don’t ask for help and then look for a way out when then directions look tough.
Expect it to be hard.
Get in our get out.
To paraphrase from my cold shower talks –
How cold does your cold shower have to be?
DAMN cold.
Imagine they piped it in from Antarctica and you’re gonna freeze the balls of a penguin-cold.
You want to take a lukewarm shower? Something easy, comfortable. Maybe slightly uncomfortable so you can delude yourself into thinking you’re on your limits.
Have fun having a lukewarm life.
If you want to do something? Do it all the way.
Moderation is an invention of modern luxury. You’re not meant for moderation – you’re meant to live an existence much bigger.
My buddy Sean Ogle says – either stay in the $500/night hotel or the $5/night hotel.
You’ll never remember the $129/night stay at the nondescript Hilton in Cedar Rapids.
Live a life of extremes. Make some memories.
And tell a damn good story with your life.

I’m gonna be unveiling my first training program in 5 years on Friday.
It’s not going to be easy – and to be fair it’s not really going to be fun (for normal people).
But it’s going to work and it’s going to be effective.
If you’re not on early-bird list already, get on it here.
If you’re going to sign up and ask for a way out (sorry, that’s not going to happen).
If you’re asking for permission to quit. Good luck with that.
You won’t get it from me.
