Ever had a great idea?
The one you’re so excited to start that you can’t stop thinking about it, and it keeps you up at night.
Then one day, you decide to do do something about it.
That’s when it starts…
The questions. The imagination. The worry.
What could go wrong…
Why it’s not a great idea…
Why you’re not smart enough…
Why you don’t have enough money…
Why you should do nothing instead…
There it is – the hesitation.
It takes you from full-fledged momentum about wanting to START and somehow, turns another great idea into just that – an idea – and lets you open up another tab and start another Netflix binge instead.
The hesitation.
If you have it – it’s natural – it’s something to keep you from jumping into a bed of rattlesnakes. That hesitation is there to help you out with a helpful pause:
“Hey bro – maybe not such a great idea…”
The hesitation is super useful in situations involving rattlesnakes, bears or other wild animals that would like to eat you. It’s not as necessary if you’re trying to decide to start working out again, run a marathon, try a new business idea, start a blog or any other small action you can take in life that might reap big rewards.
If you want to keep ideas from just being ideas, remove the hesitation. Don’t let yourself dwell on the negatives that could happen, and just get started.
So yeah – if you’re about to jump into a bed of rattlesnakes, hesitate.
Otherwise, remove the hesitation, and just do the stupid thing.

Exactly where I’m at right now! Trying to push through to actually produce a different kind of life, a new existence, for myself, but the hesitation creeps in!

Thanks for this. 🙂

Thank you for posting this. I really needed to hear this at the moment. I’ve got so many story ideas and I’m hesitating to start writing, because I’m unsure whether I’ll finish them or not. I am also unsure whether these ideas are ready, even though I want to write them.
Best just to start an idea and see what happens. If doesn’t work out, there’s no real downside to the situation.

This was perfect. I find myself in this situation over and over again. Thanks for the push

I would actually say that the world is indeed full of rattlesnakes, bears or other wild animals (humans) that would like to eat you. Don’t hesitate and jump into it anyways. Your might as well survive the attack and get stronger.

This is exactly what I needed to hear right now!

Every time a take a cold shower…I hesitate. I say to myself, what’s the harm in taking a nicer warm shower for once? But then I stop of myself and I relate this to difficult and uncomfortable things I have to do in my business to take it into orbit. I reason: If I make this decision to not turn that hot water on, I can transfer that same mental toughness to difficult tasks and projects in my business.
I dread cold showers because I’m one of those guys who, ever since I was a child dreaded going into the swimming pool during the summer because of the temperature shock of getting into the pool.
But this summer I’m not only planning to do that whenever I get a chance, one of the our vacation spots in the mountains has a polar bear competition, which entails getting and staying into freezing cold water for a period of time. I will participate in and win that competition this summer.
I am by nature an introvert. But my business requires that I be the opposite. That is like getting into the cold water. So my natural tendency is to hesitate to do some of the very important things I need to do to grow my business.
Now, I just do it.

Great comment, Eddie! Good luck at the polar bear competition! I’m also an introvert and I’ve been doing cold showers since the beginning of this year and it has definitely helped in other areas of my life. I haven’t thought about entering in one of those competitions but it could be fun!

Thanks I find myself in a few of those situations sometimes. Great reminder. Blessings.
