There’s a simple formula you can use any time you run into an obstacle.
If there’s a problem going on in your life, there’s only one answer. To be truthful, it’s less of an answer, then a system you can go through to put yourself in check and figure out how to move forward.
Think of it as a simple checklist for doing hard things. Here it is:
- Fix your mindset
- Get Stronger
- Build Discipline
- Become Resilient
- Get After it
It sounds simple, but it works for any, single, problem you run into in your life.
Hate your job?
Fix your mindset, get stronger, build discipline, become resilient, get after it.
Bored with your life?
Fix your mindset, get stronger, build discipline, become resilient, get after it.
Frustrated that other people don’t “get it”?
Fix your mindset, get stronger, build discipline, become resilient, get after it.
Tired & sluggish all the time?
Fix your mindset, get stronger, build discipline, become resilient, get after it.
Don’t like election results?
Fix your mindset, get stronger, build discipline, become resilient, get after it.
BOOM
Sure, it’s easier to blame other things, people or things outside your control. But there’s a catch.
You cannot control other people.
You cannot make people do something they don’t want to do.
You cannot change anyone but yourself.
So if something isn’t going the way you wanted, change yourself: mentally, physically, literally.
Figure out how to get better in order to smash the obstacles.
Then smash them and change your reality.
And get after it.

Great post man! I really liked the last part – “You cannot change anyone but yourself. So if something isn’t going the way you wanted, change yourself: mentally, physically, literally. Figure out how to get better in order to smash the obstacles. Then smash them and change your reality.”
Once I came to that realization recently, I started focusing on myself. I told a friend that I was going to be selfish and focus on me for a change! Once I made that shift in mindset, I immediately felt better. I can’t control others and can’t let them control me. I’ve become more productive and happier. It’s a work in progress and takes discipline for sure, but it really does help.

Wow, what a wakeup call. I’ve been complaining a lot about work lately, and feeling like crap – knowing full well that I can’t change work, just my perspective. But it’s much easier to “bitch & moan” (at least for me) than to expend the mental energy needed to change my own mindset. The other steps are easy for me (at least I think they are). Do you have any specific techniques about changing your mindset? Thanks!

DUDE!! This is so freakin good. It reminded me of the quote, “the greatest revolution of our generation is that man, by changing the inner workings of his mind, can change the outer workings of his life”
