When you make a big call. A lot of people think it’s scary.
It’s not.
The scary part isn’t the action.
The scary part is the decision.
It’s the testing back and forth between the safety of the current moment and the futures you’re scared you might achieve.
But once you act. It’s not scary anymore.
The doing isn’t scary. It might be overwhelming, it might be hard, it might be painful. But you’re too busy to be scared.
Action does not grant the luxury of fear.
There’s a story from the first time we took people bungee jumping.
We had some 30-40 people on the bridge. People would get suited up and then everyone would count down.
3.
2.
1.
Then they would jump.
There’s basically one lesson from that day.
If you didn’t jump after 1. You’d never jump.
You spend the rest of the day teetering back and forth on the ledge. Constantly checking yourself. You freak yourself out into freaking yourself out.
The best thing to do in that scenario is to jump. A second best is to walk away. Today’s not the day, not the battle.
But standing on the edge – thinking? Not the move.
Every second is just another grain of sand filling the hourglass of fear & doubt until just a couple steps become a monumental challenge. That’s the scary part.
But once you act. Once you hurl yourself off, you’re all in it.
The action isn’t the scary part. The decision is.
If you’ve been teetering too long – either walk off the bridge or jump.
But the worst thing to think to yourself is “what could have been?”
