A lot of people talk about writer’s block.
The idea that you either can’t come up with something to write or don’t know what to write about.
I’ll cut to the chase on this topic – I think it’s bull.
Most people don’t have writer’s block. They have writer’s fear.
They’re scared to produce. They’re scared to create. But most of all, they’re scared to get judged.
Seth points out most people don’t get “talker’s block.” It just doesn’t happen.
So how do you fix this?
You don’t have to write anything.
You don’t have to create anything.
You don’t have to do anything.
You can just sit on your couch, eat twinkles and candy corn, and wish you had a different life.
But you get to write.
You get to create.
You get to produce and influence and build things.

You can learn about whatever you want. You’ll get smarter.
You can write whatever you want. You’ll get better.
You can sound however you want. You’ll get comfortable(er).
All of the rules in life are made up. You can influence the ones that exist. You can change them. You can build your own.
I think of this as “writer’s freedom.”
You are free to do whatever you like. Write however you like. Sound however you like. Live however you like.
So instead of freaking out about it, getting scared and hiding behind your keyboard…
Start writing.

Great reminder! Love this: “You are free to do whatever you like. Write however you like. Sound however you like. Live however you like.”
Damn straight!

Just what I needed! I remember one great tip on how to prime yourself when you’re writing: “Imagine how happy people will be once they get to read what you write.” It also applies to anything you can make and do!

Wow, Twinkies + candy corn? I’ve never thought of that combination before! Might be worth trying. On, y’know, one of those really down days.

Well if this isn’t a permission slip to write about debaucherous trailer park car-chase gutter stories, then I don’t know what is.

So true. We are the creators of our own lives.
