I wrote this after the 4x4x48 challenge Goggins threw down this weekend. If you’re late to the party, you can catch up on the fun on instagram here. Short version: 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours.
There are so many people…that never undertake things that they would like to do because they are afraid they can not carry them through.
It doesn’t matter.
You’ve been there. You see a challenge, your brain lights up, but you immediately think of how hard it might be.
It doesn’t matter.
You ask around. Your friends aren’t up for it.
It doesn’t matter.
You doubt if you can really finish.
It doesn’t matter.
You haven’t run more than 4 miles in 6 months.
It doesn’t matter.
The challenge starts at 10pm after a full week of work.
It doesn’t matter.
You start out.
It doesn’t matter.
You end up alone somewhere at 2am on a side street.
It doesn’t matter.
You’ve been running for a day.
It doesn’t matter.
You can’t feel your quads or your calves.
It doesn’t matter.
You don’t know the last real food you ate.
It doesn’t matter.
You haven’t slept more than 3 hours at a time.
It doesn’t matter.
Your feet don’t just have blisters. They are a blister.
It doesn’t matter.
What matters, is that you get to know the clock real well.
10 / 2 / 6 / 10 / 2 / 6 / 10
Those are the numbers that matter.
When the clock turns to them. You put on your shoes. You get out the door.
There’s no out. You don’t negotiate. You don’t compromise.
It doesn’t matter.
It doesn’t matter.
It doesn’t f–king matter.
The pain is coming.
It doesn’t matter.
You might as well enjoy it.
