If you are not where you want to be, why are you chilling so much?
If you’re not where you want to be, you need to do more than just try new things. You need a new attitude.
You need to go military on some things.
You’ve got way too many obstacles taking up way too much space in your brain space.
It’s time to get rid of them.
Make your obstacles mortal. Then crush them.
It’s easy to have your excuses live in your head. When they live there, it’s hard to do much about them. They seem ephemeral, eternal and worst of all – harmless.
Slowly they begin piling up unnoticed.
Sleeping in is “just” a habit.
Missing workouts cause you’re tired is just “one of those days.”
Your sweet tooth is a quirky trait.
Individually, they seem like small, sweet innocent character flaws that don’t matter much – nobody’s perfect, right?
But, if you take inventory of all of them collectively, it starts to look and smell a lot like rot slowly taking root in every corner of your life.
So how do you get rid of them?
Well, not by being nice, loving, and accepting of them.
Instead, make them mortal and you destroy them.
Here’s what I mean:
If your largest competitor was by your bed, lulling you to sleep at 6am every day – you’d probably feel much differently about staying in bed after you alarm.
If your arch nemesis was encouraging you to skip a workout if you felt “off”, you’d be damn sure to not miss that workout.
If your opponent was luring you to the kitchen for a sweet snack during training camp, you’d probably catch on to their tricks and purge the kitchen of the temptations.
Well that’s happening – you’re just papering over it it. In your mind, you’ve convinced yourself that it’s nothing. It will pass. It’s harmless. Besides most people do it from time to time anyways.
Most people maybe. But you don’t have to be most people.
Give your obstacles name.
Make them mortal.
Then, go out and destroy them.
No excuses.
