The 3 Focuses of IMPOSSIBLE In 2014
Table of Contents
I spent a lot of time last year building systems. I’ll share a little about that in the next few days, but I want to share about where IMPOSSIBLE is going in the next year.
Behind the scenes – we’ve finally expanded the team beyond just myself. We brought on Joanna over the summer & she’s been a huge part of what we’ve been able to do over the last few months. We’ve also built up a team of VAs that help us implementing some of the systems around the business.
IMPOSSIBLE had a couple million readers stop by in 2013, and we’re aiming for something much bigger in 2014. Here’s where I’m going to be personally doubling down on in the focus & growth of IMPOSSIBLE.
Fitness
I’m going to provide much more actionable advice here on fitness & nutrition. Step-by-step walk-throughs and workouts that you can walk away from the site & easily implement.
We’ve done that some with Impossible Abs & the No Excuse Workout and they’ve been wildly popular, so I want to expand that & create more actionable steps forward for those of you interested in pushing you limits in the fitness realm.
Mindset
I’ve said before that everything starts with your mindset.
- Productivity
- Endurance
- Resiliency
- Habit Formation
- Discipline
Cold shower therapy & blackmailing yourself are two great examples of these strategies. I’m going to be diving into more strategies here & include actionable tools to actually help you move ideation to action.
Note: Now’s a good time to mention our tools is available on the app store. You can get our Cold Shower Therapy (CST) App for free. If you haven’t downloaded it yet – what are you waiting for? And yes, an android version is coming very soon.
Hustle
Hustle
I love the term hustle. It’s much more fluid & gritty than the word “business” (although, I love the way Dan uses the term “biznass”). It’s also a much more accessible term to the average person.
You might not have the skills to “start a business”, but everyone can hustle. All hustle takes is effort.
In the last 2 years, I’ve quit my job, started multiple projects, built a consulting agency, worked with startups to stripe their growth, built several niche sites, started outsourcing & building a team here at IMPOSSIBLE.
I’m not a millionaire, but I’m pretty happy and I think I have a lot to add to the conversation, and share some practical insights, guides & case studies on the work that I’ve been able to do in a similar BS-FREE manner.
While you’re at it – you should check out my two favorite hustle blogs – Tropical MBA & Forever Jobless for solid no-bs “biznass” advice.
Story Telling
I still believe deeply in the power of stories and it’s still a huge part of IMPOSSIBLE. I’m still going to be crossing things off my impossible list – but aiming much, much bigger in the next year.
I’ve got a huge adventure quest I’ll be pursuing this year. The scope of this is much bigger than anything I’ve ever done. I’ll be announcing the full adventure soon – but for now, lets just say that I’ll be putting my recently acquired Executive Platinum status to good use in 2014.
This adventure is a little frightening & I’m not quite sure I can do it – but those are typically the only things worth doing.

Other things coming down the road that may pique your interest
New IMPOSSIBLE Podcast. I know a lot of you were disappointed to see Johnny & I discontinued the BBSF podcast, but don’t worry – I haven’t forgotten about you! I’ll be relaunching a podcast very soon that’s all under the IMPOSSIBLE brand.
More IMPOSSIBLE Videos – If you remember last year – I did 30 videos in 30 days and essentially neglected it the rest of the year. Despite my neglect, the youtube channel has seen some huge growth & I’ve barely done anything on it. This year I’ll be doubling down on some video efforts and expanding volume & quality of content we produce there.
With all the new endeavors, it’s safe to say I’m slightly excited. 2014 – BRING IT ON.
Where are you putting your focus in 2014?

Hi Joel
First of all, great content, I’ve only recently found you but I’me definite going to take a look around.
Now just one info: the link on More Impossible Videos seems to be broken.

Hey Joel, great to hear from you!
I’ll be putting my focus on writing(I’m a HUGE fan of Johnny’s Self-Publishing Podcast). I too, was sad to see you and Johnny discontinue BBSF, I thought you guys had great chemistry. I can’t wait to see you podcasting again. Are you going to have a co-host or do it yourself? Also will you be interviewing people? Thanks.
Joel Runyon says
It’s going to be a mix of people. But, as it stands – I won’t have a permanent co-host.

Though I’m in a very different age group than you and my and desires are not to build businesses etc., I still gain much from reading what you have to say.
Thank you from a senior citizen

Thanks for reading Sharon!

Happy New Year Joel,
I am looking forward to ALL your new adventures. This past year I was inspired to ” tell a great story with my life”, by starting my blog ArtofAdventure.Net. This was a direct result of reading the Impossible Manifesto. I can’t wait to see what you come up with this year.
Joel Runyon says
Hey 🙂 Glad you liked the post. Go ahead and leave your name next time so we know who you are!

Joel,
As both a systems and Impossible lover, I can’t wait to see what you have coming up in the near future.
You’re one of the primary influences that lead me to create a blog of my own. I think we share some similar beliefs and I really look up to what you’ve created here as a source of inspiration.
Keep up the great work!

How did you accrue all those miles?! That’s wicked awesome, and I wanna do it… but I can’t afford to spend two-hundred thousand dollars on my credit card. Any suggestions?
TOTALLY stoked that you plan to resume podcasting! I still replay some of the BBSF podcasts while I’m out running.
Compared to what you’ve accomplished in the past two years, or since you started this blog as just some guy who planned to complete a triathlon, my objectives seem pretty puny and pathetic… and yet I’m having a heck of a time reaching them. I’m still focusing on the physical — I want to drop twenty or twenty-five more pounds and complete an ultra trail run. I just learned that the 100k I’d set my sights on for this coming October requires completion of a “qualifying” race first, so I just signed up for a 50k trail run in August. Now to get to the point where I can complete 50k….
Congrats on your success thus far. Looking forward to seeing where you take -IMPOSSIBLE- in 2014!
Joel Runyon says
They’re mostly through credit card bonuses & other bonuses – in other words – I didn’t spend 200k :).
I will have more posts on just how to do that this year since I’m going to be traveling quite a bit more.

Thank you for all your motivational emails. They really have me thinking really deep. I really need to use your methods to help me. Especially with my focus. But keep them coming and I’m going to keep reading.
