Yesterday, I ran the 2 Oceans Marathon in Cape Town, South Africa. After 2 1/2 years, injuries, lawsuits, and all sorts of setbacks - not to count hundreds of miles of training, 777 is done. 7 ultra marathons on 7 continents. Done. #boom I'll do a full write up on Two Oceans (it was beautiful, but hard) this week, but right now, I'm going to lie down and take a nap for a second. => Contribute to 777 & I'll 2x your ...

Visiting PoP School #1: 24 Hours in Laos
Later this week, I’m running race #7 of 777. After 2+ years in the making, I'm finally close to done. When we built school #1 in 2012, I was fortunate enough to be able to visit the Guatemala team in Panajachel I’m hopefully going to visit Ghana and return to Guatemala later this year, but since I was in Asia, I wanted to stop by the Laos office and see what they were up to. Meeting The PoP Laos Team When I showed up in country, Lanoy and Moriah ...
The Standard
My junior year in college, I quit basketball and decided to join my track & field team and throw the javelin. I picked javelin because I wanted to join the T&F team, but I didn't want to run (funny, huh?). The first thing I noticed about track and field compared to basketball is that there's a standard. Everyone knows where they stand. With basketball, you can talk about lineups, fit, intangibles and a bunch of other ethereal stuff that's ...
The Thailand North Face 50k Race Video Short
This was hands-down, one of the most painful races I've ever run. As I mentioned in the written recap, this was one of the first races that I've taken on that I felt like was trying to physically break me. Enjoy the part of the video where I think I'll go for a PB, only to be presented with a solid dose of humility served up by reality (and a single track trail that doubled as a torture device). The Thailand North Face 50k Video Short Location: Khao ...
The Antarctica Ice Marathon 100k Video
What do you do at the bottom of the earth in -10º temperatures? Run 100 kilometers, obviously. This was the 13th and final running of the Ice Marathon 100k (You can read the written recap here). The Rovaniemi 66km Race
First things first: This race was less of a race than it was an expedition. For starters: The temperature when I finished was -16º and it didn’t get warmer than -8º the entire day. There were entire sections of the race that I hiked knee deep through snow and some where I stepped all the way up to my hip. The aid stations were just a fire and a clipboard to sign in and out of the station. No water. No snacks. No food. Nothing. When I drank ...
Winter Swimming in Estonia
When I travel, I try to find out what local people like to do and do that. I also try to maintain some of my own routines. So when I found out about “winter swimming” when I was coming through Estonia, I knew I needed to give it a shot. Estonia's tourism site describes it like this: Basically, it’s cold shower therapy 2.0 You cut a hole in the ice, then you jump in. Then, spend some times splashing around and enjoying your "swim." Simple, cold ...
The Narrabeen All Nighter Video Short
Most people go out and party on new years eve. Apparently I think it's a good idea to run an ultra marathon. The Narrabeen All Nighter is a 12 hour marathon. It's 2.5km out and back course that you run as many times as possible in 12 hours. It started at 6pm New Years Eve and finished at 6am New Years Day. Here's how it went down The Narrabeen All Nighter Video (2017) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgXygA3W53M Previous Race Recaps ...
5 Schools Built! 2 More To Go – A 777 Fundraising Update
It’s been a while since I’ve done a 777 update on fundraising- mostly because I’ve been so deeply immersed in it. After getting derailed for a good 18 months due to injury, business and personal issues, I'm happy to report I'm back at it. In the first 6 weeks of the year, I've made huge progress on the running part of the challenge and now I've got a couple weeks coming up where I can come up for air for a bit and breathe and report back on where I'm ...
The North Face Thailand 50k
- BANGKOK, THAILAND - PUQ-SCL-DFW-EWR-JFK-LAX-SAN-LAX-HKG-BKK After about 4 days total in the US - split between the east and west coast - I landed in Bangkok. I had a night to crash in the city before getting a driver and making the 3 hour trek outside the city to Khao Yai national park. I went directly to packet pickup, grabbed my stuff plus a few extras at the expo, and headed to my next hotel. Still “off” on my sleep schedule, I tried to ...
