Early Morning Changes
It's 5:15. In the morning. Dang. This is probably the earliest post I've ever done at BIT. I am not a morning person. So why am I up? There's only one reason: to get better Ever since I quit LifeTime Fitness and joined my local community club (The Monon Center), I've had to adjust some of my workout habits. The Monon Center is better in almost every way possible: it's closer, it's cleaner, it's cheaper and it's less crowded, but the one thing ...
Mudathlon
Updated - 5/29 Official results have been posted. Also you can check out the official mudathlon flickr set here and see this gem of a photo of my crossing the finish line. At the beginning of July I said I wanted to do a race this month. I didn't care what type of race it was (5k, 10k, or tri), I just wanted to do something competitive and hopefully one of them crossed off my list. Well, as it turns out, this past weekend I did do a race that wasn't even ...
Vibrams Five Fingers Review Part 1
This is 1st part of a 2 part series where I review my Vibram Five Fingers Shoes I bought last month. You can read the second part of the review here. *** photo credit: Richard Monteverde A few weeks back I took a plunge and got a pair of Vibrams Five Finger running shoes. After using them for a few weeks, I finally feel like I've run enough in them to give a review of my experiences with them so I decided I might as well make it a video ...
Screw It & Do It
[Photo Credit] One of the hardest things for me is being consistent in my workout routines. I find I have weeks where I can workout everyday, no problem. Then there are other weeks where I'm either busy, distracted, unmotivated or just annoyed where working out is a full-fledged struggle. I've talked about how dangerous inaction can be and since then [with the help of some of you], I've worked on developing a new mindset for my workouts that has helped ...
New “Shoes”
Hey, I put some new shoes on, And suddenly everything is right - Paolo Nutini [Listen] ---- I've been needing new shoes lately. My current shoes I got January '09 for my last track season. I've been wearing them since and they've been pretty worn down. I needed to get some new ones and I've been seeing and hearing a lot of Vibrams 5 Fingers shoes and hearing people swear by them. I sent out a shout on twitter to see if they really were the real deal ...
It’s Official [Sort Of]
It's official. I'm a triathlete. At least according the the USAT (USA Triathlon). I have the card to prove it. I paid the $39 and went ahead and did it. Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what membership gets me other than a card I get mailed to me that proves I'm a member and I don't have to pay a $10 one-day membership fee at every triathlon I sign up for. Essentially this means I have to do at least 4 triathlons this year, because I'll be danged if I ...
Run Through The Rain
If you've been reading the blog for any time, you should know that it's general knowledge that I'm not the greatest runner in the world. I try hard and I am actually getting noticeably better but it's still not my favorite activity in the world. The other day I went out late for my run and decided to go on a different route than I normally do. The run was to be about 4.5 miles which is still somewhat of a stretch for me since I'm getting used to long[er] ...
28 Seconds And The Difference Between a 10 Minute Mile and A 10 Minute Mile
Last week I was a little upset. I ran a 10 minutes mile and felt old. This week I ran a 10 minute mile and I was pumped. The difference? 28 seconds & 4 miles. I ran 9.4 miles and about died. That's literally the farthest I've ever run. It was a 10 minute mile too [okay, 9:58]. This time though, I was ecstatic rather than upset. Why is that? [Besides the face I may be bipolar]. Instead of focusing on the time it took me to accomplish the run, I ...
